Kamiak graduate Josh Jensen, who played college football at Occidental, was taken in the third round of the Canadian Football League draft by Montreal.

Jensen, a linebacker in high school and college, was the 23rd player chosen overall, the second linebacker and the ninth defensive player.

Snohomish grad honored: Snohomish graduate John Thomas, an outfielder/designated hitter for Central Washington who leads the Wildcats in home runs (four) and runs batted in (21), was recently chosen the Great Northwest Athletic Conference co-player of the week for his performance in a four-game league series against Northwest Nazarene.

Thomas drove in four runs in a 16-11 victory over NNU in the first game of a doubleheader at Tomlinson Field. He socked a solo home run in the second inning and a grand slam in the first frame of the nightcap to help the Wildcats roll to a 13-4 win and complete a sweep of the twin bill.

Thomas slapped six hits in 14 at bats and drove in 10 runs overall as the Wildcats settled for a split of the four-game set.

Willamette stars: Marysville-Pilchuck graduate Marcie Hagen and Snohomish graduate Sherri Mabie are having standout seasons for the Willamette University softball team.

Hagen, a sophomore, is tied for the Northwest Conference lead in doubles with eight and has 17 RBI. The former third baseman who moved to shortstop this season, is also 10-for-10 in stolen bases.

Mabie, a junior, is tied for second in the league in stolen bases with 11 in 13 attempts. She is a three-year starter at second base.

Nealer pitcher of the week: Jackson graduate Amanda Nealer, who pitches for Florida International University, was named the SunBelt Conference pitcher of the week for the second time earlier this month. Pitching in relief she retired 26 of 29 batters faced, giving up just two hits. Nealer’s earned run average for the season is 1.09 and opposing batters are hitting .185 against her.
