Former Seattle Mariners pitcher Rob Ramsay has been diagnosed with a brain tumor.
Ramsay, 28, is scheduled to undergo surgery in San Francisco on Wednesday.
“They don’t really know (how serious it is),” Ramsay told the Coeur d’Alene Press. “As far as whether it’s cancerous or not, they won’t know until they operate.”
Ramsay was acquired on waivers by the San Diego Padres in November. He began experiencing severe headaches around the same time and his wife, whom he met while the two attended Washington State University, insisted he see a doctor.
Ramsay, a left-hander, was 1-3 with a 3.82 ERA during Seattle’s 1999 and 2000 seasons.
“You hear brain tumor and you think the worst,” he said.
