Former MP hoops star Battle enters NCAA transfer portal

The Tulalip native struggled to get on the court during his sophomore season at UW.

RaeQuan Battle’s tenure on the University of Washington men’s basketball team appears to be over.

The former Marysville Pilchuck High School basketball star has entered the NCAA transfer portal, according to Percy Allen of the Seattle Times.

Battle, a Tulalip native, started in only one of the 14 games he played in during his sophomore season with the Huskies. He averaged 4.6 points and 2.1 rebounds per contest.

The 6-foot-5 guard led the Huskies in scoring with 10 points in a season opening loss to Baylor on Nov. 29 and netted a career-high 19 points in a loss to Oregon on Dec 12.

Battle, The Herald’s 2018-19 Boys Basketball Player of the Year, struggled throughout the season to replicate the scoring ability he was known for during his time as a Tomahawk. He shot just 25.6% from the field and 20.4% from 3-point rage this season, scoring four points or less in 10 of 14 games.

His playing time decreased significantly throughout the year as he fell out of UW’s rotation. Battle didn’t play in 12 of the Huskies’ final 18 games after appearing in the first nine.

Battle is one of five UW players to enter the transfer portal since the season ended. He’s joined by guards Erik Stevenson, Marcus Tsohonis and Nate Pryor and forward J’Raan Brooks.

UW went 5-21 this season and finished 11th out of 12 teams in Pac-12 play with a record of 4-16.
