PASCO — The Everett AquaSox struck for four runs in the top of the first inning and cruised to a 5-1 victory over the Tri-City Dust Devils Thursday before 2,285 fans at Gesa Stadium.
The win was the third straight for the AquaSox (12-16) who will go for the series sweep of the Dust Devils (14-14) Friday at 7:15.
Everett starter Andres Torres worked six hitless innings and fanned six as he faced just one batter over the minimum.
The Dust Devils broke up the shutout against Everett reliever JP Sears in the bottom of the seventh when Luis Asuncion doubled and later scored on a two-out error to cut the deficit to 5-1. That was the only hit allowed by Everett pitchers.
The AquaSox took the lead for good in their first at-bat.
Chris Torres led off with a triple and Joseph Rosa reached on an error. Both scored on Eugene Helder’s RBI double. Helder scored on a Juan Camacho RBI double, and Camacho scored on an RBI single by David Banuelos for a 4-0 lead.
Everett tacked on another run in the fifth when Austin Grebeck walked and scored on an RBI single by Brayan Hernandez.
The AquaSox pounded out 10 hits. Torres had three and Banuelos added two to lead the Frogs.
