The NFL announced the selections for this year’s Pro Bowl on Tuesday evening, and the Seattle Seahawks had four players selected, all on defense.
Seattle’s selections were defensive ends Michael Bennett and Cliff Avril, cornerback Richard Sherman and linebacker Bobby Wagner. It is the fourth Pro Bowl invitation for Sherman, third for Wagner, second for Bennett and first for Avril.
The four Pro Bowlers are the fewest Seattle has had since having none in the 2010 season. The players were selected by a combination of the coaches, players and fans.
Wagner and Avril are in the midst of career seasons. Wagner leads the NFL in tackles with 145 tackles through 14 games and became the first player in franchise history to record five straight 100-tackle seasons. Avril is tied for third in the league with 11.5 sacks, which is a career high, and is second in quarterback hits with 25.
Bennett has three sacks and 14 quarterback hits, despite missing five games because of knee surgery. Sherman has a team-leading four interceptions.
Eight Seattle players were named as alternates. They were: receiver Doug Baldwin, center Justin Britt, strong safety Kam Chancellor, tight end Jimmy Graham, kicker Steven Hauschka, returner Tyler Lockett, quarterback Russell Wilson and linebacker K.J. Wright.
The Pro Bowl is on Jan. 29 in Orlando. Any player who are on teams in the Super Bowl will not be able to participate.
