TACOMA — The stands surrounding the boys’ court at the Tacoma dome fell into a silent hush of concern Thursday morning when one of the tournament’s most marquee players went down in a heap.
Franklin junior Peyton Siva injured his right shoulder late in the second quarter of a game against Mariner. Siva hurt himself while jumping in the air to contest a shot by Marauders guard Danny Chhann, and the Franklin star’s fingers got caught in the net.
Siva lay on the floor in obvious pain while a trainer checked out his shoulder. He returned to the court a few minutes later and played almost the entire second half.
“I’m not going to quit on my team for anything,” Siva said afterward when asked why he returned to the court. “If I can play, I’m going to play.”
Familiar surname: Snohomish’s Thursday morning opponent, Mountain View, included a guard with a well-known name for college basketball fans. Senior Matt Raivio is the younger brother of former Gonzaga star Derek Raivio.
Matt Raivio one-upped his older brother by leading Mountain View to the state tournament, but he didn’t exactly rise to the occasion. The Thunder senior went scoreless in Thursday’s loss to Snohomish, missing all five of his field goal attempts.
