Same fun, different day.
The hugely popular Lake Tye kids’ free trout fishing day is scheduled for Sunday, not Saturday, 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The event is sponsored by the Sky Valley Chapter of Trout Unlimited.
The Lake is just west of the Fryelands, on Fryelands Boulevard, Monroe. The event is open to all youngsters 12 years and under, and there will be lots of fun prizes.
The fish — hundreds of fat rainbow, including a few to 10-plus pounds — will be held in a net pen at the south end of the lake, so fishing should be relatively easy for even the novice angler.
Kids with their own tackle should bring it, but there will be gear available for those without.
After the kids’ event, there will be an adult derby from 2 to 5 p.m. with a cash prize of $250 for biggest fish and a bonus prize of $500 for anyone catching the special tagged fish.
Entry fee for the adult derby is $10. For more information contact Gary Bee at 360-794-6378; nshore@nwlink.com; or Ken Chisholm Sr., at 360-563-1399.
Or, if you’d rather go north, the Wildcat Steelhead Club’s annual Kid’s Fishing Derby is scheduled for May 3 at the Northern State Ponds in Sedro-Woolley.
It’s open to those 14 and younger, fishing starts at 8 a.m., and kids should bring their own gear and bait. Call 360-855-2291, or go to www.wildcatsteelhead.com.
