VANCOUVER, B.C. – The late season struggles continue for the Everett AquaSox.

Trying to end a five game losing streak and regain first place in the Northwest League West Division, the AquaSox offense remained ineffective in a 3-1 loss to the West-leading Vancouver Canadians at Nat Bailey Stadium Saturday.

The loss dropped the AquaSox 1 1/2 games behind Vancouver with eight games remaining.

Everett managed just one run on five hits, a day after being shut out for the first time all season.

The lone run came in the seventh and broke an 18-inning scoreless streak.

Once the best hitting team in the NWL, Everett has picked the worst time to slump, managing just two runs in 30 innings.

Canadians starter Michael Rogers retired the first ten AquaSox batters of the game before Brandon Green doubled to left-center.

Rogers finished with six scoreless innings. He gave up three hits and struck out three.

AquaSox starter Jason Snyder gave his team every chance to win. The right-hander threw six solid innings, holding the Canadians to one run on five hits, while striking out four.

Vancouver took a 1-0 lead in the third. Everett tied it in the seventh when Marshall Hubbard led off the inning with a double off Canadians reliever Chris Howay.

Trevor Heid pinch-ran for Hubbard and was advanced to third on Asdrubal Cabrera’s sacrifice bunt.

Brent Johnson followed Cabrera with an RBI single to left tying the score at 1-1.

Cabrera was one of just three Frogs to advance into scoring position on the night, while Oswaldo Navarro was the only Everett player to garner multiple hits in the game.

Everett immediately gave back the lead in the bottom half of the seventh when Gregorio Petit scored on a wild pitch by Sox reliever Terry Forbes (1-2).

Vancouver tacked on an insurance run on a Nicolas Blasi run-scoring double.

Everett plays two more games in Vancouver before finishing the season with six straight games against Salem-Keizer. The Sox are 5-1 against the Volcanoes in 2004.

After its series with the Sox, Vancouver will play seven straight against the Eugene Emeralds, the team with the worst record in the Northwest League.
