SPOKANE — Josh Merrigan hit a three-run home run in the seventh inning to lead the Spokane Indians to a 6-4 win over the Everett AquaSox in Northwest League baseball action Sunday.
The loss snapped the Frogs’ six-game win streak.
Everett had runners on first and third in the top of the ninth, but Donnie Walton hit into a forceout against Johan Juan to end the game.
The home run by Merrigan — his first of the season — drove in Chad Smith and Todd McDonald to give the Indians a 4-1 lead.
The Indians tacked on two runs in the eighth when Merrigan drew a bases-loaded walk and Smith scored on an error.
Everett saw its comeback attempt come up short after Johmbeyker Morales hit a two-run double and then scored on a single by Jose Leal in the ninth to cut the Spokane lead to 6-4.
Starter Tyler Phillips (3-3) got the win and Dillon Moyer (0-1) took the loss in relief. Moyer allowed three runs in two-thirds of an inning.
Morales, Nick Zammarelli and Jose Leal each had two hits to lead Everett’s nine-hit attack.
Morales and Leal each drove in a pair of runs.
Merrigan drove in four runs for the Indians, and Blaine Prescott and Xavier Turner each had two hits for the winners.
Everett is 6-3 against Spokane this season. Spokane won the NWL’s North Division first-half championship.
The AquaSox now get three days off for the NWL All-Star break. Their next game is Thursday at home against the Hillsboro Hops.
