Everett scratches: Stanfield, Friesen, Cumiskey, Simpson.
Notes: Defenseman Nick Walters makes his WHL playoff debut as he comes in for Kieran Friesen. Forwards Clayton Cumiskey (concussion) and Parker Stanfield (concussion) and goaltender Kent Simpson (ankle) remain out injured. Luke Siemens starts in goal.
Portland scratches: Hanson, Ponich, Gabriel, Swenson, Petan, Trott.
Notes: Just one change for Portland as former Silvertip Mat Ius gets another game at Comcast Arena. Ius replaces Pearce Eviston in the lineup. Defenseman Brett Ponich (knee) and winger Oliver Gabriel (shoulder) are out injured. Mac Carruth starts in goal.
Finally, we’ve got arena drama tonight. There’s a huge set of lights and speakers hanging above the east end of the arena. Those are for the Acquire the Fire concert tomorrow night (and explain why the arena crew was putting the floor down after last night’s game). Unfortunately, there are pieces of this set that could conceivably be in the line of fire. As I type, there is a group of young adults standing around a piece of equipment, supposedly trying to figure out how to raise a bank of fluorescent lights, but I haven’t seen any sign of movement. I have this image of the final scene from the movie “The Natural” running through my head right now.
