As I mentioned on this blog yesterday and wrote about in today’s paper, Juan Garcia granted a rare interview with reporters yesterday.
Well as it turned out, one story today said Garcia was blaming Tyrone Willingham for the culture of losing at Washington, something Garcia vehemently denies.
Garcia released this statement just a few minutes ago:
“In today’s newspapers, certain articles containing comments that I made yesterday have, in my opinion, made it look as though I was being critical of Coach Willingham. Actually, everything I said was meant to show my support for my coach.”
“At least five reporters were present for the entire interview and several newspapers have posted on their websites more complete transcripts of what I said in its full and proper context. Anyone who takes the time to read those transcripts will see that everything I said was actually supportive.”
“To anyone who might think that I was being critical of the UW football program, let me make it clear that, however my words were perceived, being critical in any way was not my intention.”
I’m guessing that may be the last we hear from Garcia for a while.
