EDMONDS — The Edmonds-Woodway girls basketball team employed a stellar half-court defense, holding Shorewood to nine second-half points and scored 34 first-half points Friday in a 57-26 Wesco South win.
With the win, the Warriors clinched the South’s No. 1 seed to the 4A District 1 playoffs and can do no worse than a tie for the division title with Jackson. The Warriors won their last outright league championship in the 1991-92 season.
“It is a good feeling,” E-W head coach Duane Hodges said of the win and 15-1 Wesco South mark that the Warriors sport. “We did play some really good halfcourt defense tonight and continue to rebound well.” E-W took a 36-27 rebound advantage.
Alex Kenney and Angela Woods led E-W with 16 points apiece, and Ashley Albertson had 14 rebounds.
Amiah Nash came off the bench to score six points, and Hodges said the guard played great defense and created a spark for the Warriors.
