Girls Basketball Roundup: M-P stifles Oak Harbor 53-36

OAK HARBOR — The Oak Harbor girls basketball team had a chance to clinch a 4A District 1 playoff berth on Monday night.

Unfortunately for the Bearcats, it was Marysville-Pilchuck, the top team in the Wesco North, standing in their way.

The Tomahawks defense disrupted Oak Harbor offensively, and M-P earned the 53-36 win.

Oak Harbor’s leading scorer Jessica Denmon didn’t even get her first field goal until the fourth quarter.

“They did a nice job defensively,” Oak Harbor coach Brett McLeod said. “We had some nice looks that we missed and then good defense by them.”

Marysville-Pilchuck was led by the perimeter attack of Morgan Martinis and Becca Lentz. Martinis scored 21 points, knocking down five 3s and Lentz scored 13 points, hitting four 3s of her own.

In the second half, Hannah Watson stepped up as an inside presence for the Tomahawks. Watson scored all nine of her points after halftime, helping M-P build its lead.

Denmon was the offensive leader for Oak Harbor, scoring 14 points.
