Surprising news out of Snohomish: Dominant center Payton Pervier is no longer a member of the state-ranked Glacier Peak High School boys basketball team.
Minus Pervier — a 7-foot senior who was the Grizzlies season leader in scoring, rebounding and blocked shots — Glacier Peak routed Oak Harbor 64-37 last night in a first-round Class 3A District 1 tournament game.
Glacier Peak coach Brian Hunter said Pervier is off the team but did not explain why. It’s a major loss for the Grizzlies, considering Pervier was vastly improved this season and at times was seemingly unstoppable on offense and incredibly imposing on defense. But, based on its impressive victory over Oak Harbor, Glacier Peak is still capable of making another run to the state tournament.
Next up for Glacier Peak is a winner-to-state semifinal clash against Meadowdale on Saturday at Glacier Peak High.
