CROMWELL, Conn. — Kenny Perry followed up his opening 61 with a 68 Friday and held on to a two-stroke lead when thunderstorms halted the second round of the Travelers Championship.
Perry, who tied the course record Thursday, said he actually hit the ball better on Friday, but lost his touch with the putter. He had just three birdies despite hitting 16 greens.
Ryan Moore shot a 65 to move into second place .
Wegmans LPGA
ROCHESTER, N.Y. — South Korean star Jiyai Shin shot a 4-under 68 and for a three-stroke lead at the storm-plagued Wegmans LPGA. Play was interrupted by thunderstorms for nearly five hours Friday, then called off for the day at 8:37 p.m. Morgan Pressel was at 8 under through 13 holes, one better than Kristy McPherson on the same hole. Michelle Wie also was at 7 under through 10 holes.
Champions Tour
ENDICOTT, N.Y. — Fred Funk is the leader in the clubhouse at the rain-delayed Dick’s Sporting Goods Open. Funk shot an 8-under 64 on Friday to gain a two-shot lead over Jay Haas and Lonnie Nielsen. It’s Funk’s best round on the Champions Tour since a 63 in the 2008 season-opener in Hawaii. Mike Hulbert also was at 6 under through 12 holes. Tom Kite, D.A. Weibring, and Andy Bean completed their rounds and were tied at 5 under.
Eisenhower enshrined
ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. — Former president Dwight D. Eisenhower has been selected for the World Golf Hall of Fame, the first U.S. president to be inducted. Eisenhower, a member of Augusta National whose passion for golf helped fuel its popularity after World War II, was chosen through the Lifetime Achievement category Friday. He will be inducted posthumously Nov. 2 at the World Golf Village.
Singh’s offer denied
HOUSTON — Vijay Singh has offered to help pay the $500,000 bond for financier Allen Stanford, but federal rules would not allow it because the three-time major champion is not a U.S. citizen.
Daly must pay legal fees
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Professional golfer John Daly has been ordered to pay almost $272,000 in legal fees for his unsuccessful libel lawsuit against The Florida Times-Union. Daly was ordered to pay $263,088 in attorney’s fees, plus costs of $8,675.99 and 8 percent interest rate per year until it is paid.
