RENO, Nev. — Scott McCarron rattled off five birdies and an eagle on the front nine on his way to a 5-under 67 and a one-shot lead entering the final round of the PGA tournament.
McCarron was at 10-under 206 at his home course, Montreux Golf &Country Club, as he seeks his fourth career PGA Tour victory and first since 2001. Robert Garrigus began the day as the co-leader but bogeyed the 18th to finish with a 73, falling into a tie with John Mallinger (71) at 9 under.
Chiquita Classic
CINCINNATI — Tommy Gainey matched the Nationwide Tour’s 54-hole record of 24-under par and had a four-shot lead entering today’s final round of the Nationwide Tour event. After rounds of 64 and 66, Gainey shot a 10-under 62 to match Arjun Atwal’s record set during the 2008 Chattanooga Classic. His round of 62 also matched the TPC River Bend course record.
