Granite Falls defeat South Whidbey 5-0 in baseball

LANGLEY – The Granite Falls baseball team began the game with five straight hits and cruised to a 5-0 Cascade Conference victory over South Whidbey Monday in Langley.

At 10-3 in the conference, South Whidbey holds a one-game lead over second-place Granite Falls, with the two teams meeting twice more this week.

Granite Falls scored four of its five runs in the first inning. Billy Villegas led off with a double followed by Jon Pennington and Scott Kalma singles. Clean-up hitter Josh Knudsen doubled and Jake Peden followed with one of his four singles in the game.

Pennington, who pitched a complete game for Granite Falls, scattered five hits over seven innings. He struck out four and retired the first nine Falcon batters in order.

Peden scored the Tigers’ other run with a solo home run in the third inning, and finished 5-for-5 for the game.
