The Granite Falls School District announced Friday that its high school football team has forfeited its Sept. 2 non-conference win over Shorewood because of an ineligible player.
The violation occurred when the Tigers “replaced an injured player with a player that was later determined academically ineligible to play,” district spokeswoman Melanie Freeman said in a press release.
The district filed a violation report earlier this month and the Cascade Conference athletic directors, meeting on Wednesday, determined the Tigers should forfeit the contest.
The loss dropped Granite Falls’ record from 1-2 to 0-3 going into Friday night’s conference game against Cedar Park Christian-Bothell. Shorewood improved to 1-2.
“This was due to an unfortunate clerical error, and the procedures have been in place to ensure this does not happen again,” Freeman said in the release.
The game was Granite Falls’ season opener. The Tigers won, 34-14.
