GRANITE FALLS — The Granite Falls softball team moved to within a game of Cascade Conference-leading Lakewood after a doubleheader sweep of Sultan on Thursday. The Tigers’ Lauren Harding hit a solo home run and pitched a complete game as Granite Falls took the first game 5-2. The Turks’ Shelby Jeffries struck out eight and Rachel Kirkpatrick went 2-for-3 in the loss.
In game two, Sultan jumped out to a 5-0 lead after the third inning, but the Tigers rallied with six runs in the sixth, highlighted by Mikayla Engstrom’s grand slam, to earn an 8-6 victory. Winning pitcher Makenzie McLaughlin finished 2-for-3 with a triple and Kelsey Bechtoldt drove in two runs.
