Granite Falls wins on late HR

DUVALL – Granite Falls’ Josh Knudson hit a leadoff home run in the seventh inning to break a 2-2 tie and lift the Tigers to a 3-2 victory over Cedarcrest in a Cascade Conference baseball game Friday.

”We had two strikes on him,” Cedarcrest coach Scott Goldsberry said of Knudson. ”We hung a curve ball and he hit it out.

”He put a good swing on it and hit a clutch home run.”

The victory was Granite Falls’ ninth straight without a loss in conference play. The Tigers are 9-1 overall. Cedarcrest fell to 5-7 in conference play and overall.

Granite Falls’ Billy Villegas pitched 61/3 innings for the Tigers, allowing two runs (both earned) and eight hits while striking out nine. J.T. Matronic picked up the save for Granite Falls.

Cedarcrest’s Cameron Padron pitched six innings, allowing three runs (one earned) and five hits while striking out five.
