HILLSBORO, Ore — A ceremonial groundbreaking for the new Hillsboro baseball stadium is set for Friday.
The 4,500-seat stadium will be home to the Class A minor-league affiliate of the Arizona Diamondbacks that is moving from Yakima.
The stadium will cost $15.2 million and is expected to be ready for the 2013 season.
The event marks the return of professional baseball to the Portland area. It has been without a team since the Portland Beavers left after the 2010 season.
The name of the new Hillsboro baseball team will be revealed in a few weeks.
