Guards lead E-W to postseason

MOUNTLAKE TERRACE — Edmonds-Woodway became the first Wesco South team to clinch a 4A District 1 playoff berth Friday.

All the more impressive, they did it away from home and without injured senior post player Connor Donaldson.

E-W used a 21-11 run in the second quarter to wrest control of the game away from Mountlake Terrace and take a 61-51 Wesco South victory.

“Our bigs scored 36 tonight, their guards scored 45,” Mountlake Terrace coach Nalin Sood said. “(The E-W guards) played intelligent, they played good defense, they took care of the ball.”

James Conti had eight points, five rebounds and five assists and senior Sean Laue hit two 3-pointers and scored 14 points for Edmonds-Woodway.

Karsten Strieby led Mountlake Terrace with 22 points and Tarik Kunduklija chipped in 14 points and 11 rebounds.

The Warriors shot 11-for-12 from the line in the fourth quarter to expand on a slim two-point lead.

Shorecrest 64, Meadowdale 57 (OT): At Shoreline, Shorecrest overcame a 14-point fourth-quarter defecit to force overtime and outscored Meadowdale 10-3 in the extra four minutes to win the Wesco South contest.

“We’ve been playing really well lately, but not closing out games,” Shorecrest coach Brian Fischer said. “I felt our guys really deserved this one. We didn’t let it get to us and just kept competing.”

Mark Golike had nine fourth-quarter points and finished with a game-high 21 to lead the Scots. Travis Hake added 12 points, Peter Meyers had 10 and Ryan Dodge had 11 rebounds to lead Shorecrest.

Paul Werner had 19 points and Jake Clampitt added 12 for the Mavericks.
