This past Friday was one of the rainiest nights I’ve ever seen. The weather created some wacky, borderline ridiculous field conditions for our high school football teams.
At the game I covered, Cedarcrest and Archbishop Murphy slipped, slid and splashed their way through an exciting Cascade Conference battle for first place. Although Cedarcrest played better most of the game, Murphy rallied for a 14-7 win in the final minute.
You already know that. But you probably don’t know how guilty I feel about Friday night. While I was warm and dry (except for about 10 minutes before the game and 10 minutes after the game) in the press box at Terry Ennis Stadium, Herald photographer (and my Double Team partner) Jennifer Buchanan was camped outside, getting absolutely soaked. The field looked like a swimming pool in some spots, so Jenny could have used a kayak in addition to her heavy-duty rain gear. (At halftime, Murphy athletic consultant Roman Miller joked that he saw a bass jump in one of the puddles and that we should all get poles and go fishing.)
I already admired Jenny for her photography skills. Now I respect her even more for gutting it out during that relentless downpour. Her effort paid off. She got some incredible photos from the Murphy-Cedarcrest game.
