The Everett-based Leading Edge Gymnastics squad placed second among 27 teams over the weekend at the Level 4 state championships in Federal Way.
Jeia Villacis, 9, paced Leading Edge with victories in her age group on the uneven bars (9.375) and in the floor exercises (9.35). She finished fourth in the all-around with a personal-best score of 37.40.
Also for Leading Edge, Megan Ponce, 10, won the balance beam (9.575) and placed fourth in her all-around.
This weekend, the Leading Edge Level 5 and Level 6 teams are scheduled to compete in the state tournament at Mariner High School.
Curling
U.S. ties for eighth: The United States men’s team finished in a three-way tie for eighth place at the World Curling Championships held last month in Gavle, Sweden.
The U.S. squad included three curlers from Lynnwood – Jason Larway, Joel Larway and Doug Kauffman.
The United States finished the championships with a 2-7 record, tied with Denmark and France in the 10-nation event. Sweden won the gold medal with an 8-3 record.
