Hart notches another shutout, Silvertips top Moose Jaw 2-0

MOOSE JAW, Saskatchewan — Saturday wasn’t the first time this season that Everett Silvertips goaltender Carter Hart has had back-to-back shutouts, but it was perhaps the most timely.

Hart turned aside all 31 Moose Jaw shots as the Silvertips defeated the Warriors 2-0 Saturday before 3,337 fans at Mosaic Place.

The reigning WHL and CHL Goaltender of the Year had three consecutive shutouts earlier this season and now has a league-best eight for the year. More importantly, his last two shutouts have been Everett’s only two victories in the past 10 games. The Tips (32-12-8-2, 74 points) briefly moved back in front of Seattle for the lead in the U.S. Division. The Thunderbirds were playing host to Portland late Saturday.

Moose Jaw, backstopped by last year’s Eastern Conference Goaltender of the Year Zach Sawchenko, fell to 32-16-7-1 (72 points) as Sawchenko was the tough-luck loser.

Manitoba native Devon Skoleski, playing in front of a number of family and friends as Everett makes its East Division swing, scored Everett’s first goal and added an assist in the victory.

Everett got the coveted first goal of the game when Skoleski tipped in Noah Juulsen’s shot past Sawchenko at 10:18 in the opening period. That gave Juulsen assists in his first two games since missing nine contests in a row.

The Tips finished with a 15-7 shot advantage in the opening period as Hart withstood a quick Moose Jaw flurry in front of the net in the final minute of the first.

Everett added its second goal at 10:13 in the second. Eetu Tuulola, in his first shift back after suffering a check to the head, took a feed from Connor Dewar and beat Sawchenko glove side for the 2-0 lead.

That was all Everett needed as Hart stopped 15 shots in the final period to close out the victory. The Tips also killed off all three Moose Jaw power plays.

The Tips play at Regina at 5 p.m. on Tuesday.
