Seahawks coach Jim Mora just finished his Wednesday press conference, and said that as of today, he and his coaching staff are preparing for the week as if Matt Hasselbeck and Walter Jones won’t play.
Hasselbeck is making progress, Mora said, but still can’t run and is in pain if he takes deep breaths. I’m no expert, but I’m pretty sure running and taking deep breaths are part of the job requirement for quarterbacks.
As for Jones, the news isn’t great on him. Mora said the left tackle hasn’t had any setbacks on his surgically repaired knee, but that “he still has some pain” so he will take a couple of days off.
Cornerback Ken Lucas (groin) will be limited today, but should be OK for Sunday. Linebacker Lofa Tatupu (hamstring) will “go as able” Mora said, and that if he has a good week of practice he will play Sunday.
The pleasant surprise for the Seahawks is that Josh Wilson will return to practice on a limited basis only a week and a half removed from a high ankle sprain.
Tackle Brandon Frye (groin) will take today off but should be able to play Sunday.
Guard Rob Sims (oblique) will also be out today and his status is still undecided.
Safety Jordan Babineaux has a sore neck and will take today off, but that injury isn’t considered serious enough to keep him out of Sunday’s game.
Fullback Justin Griffith (knee) may return to practice on a limited basis this week, and his status for Sunday is still undecided.
Linebacker Leroy Hill is “doing really well” with the recovery from his groin injury, Mora said. Marcus Trufant, who is on the PUP list until the bye week, is “making the gains that we’ve been looking for” Mora said, and the team is hopeful that he will be able to make it back for the Nov. 1 game in Dallas.
The team also made a couple of practice squad moves, including the addition of one former Husky. Running back Louis Rankin, who started the season on Oakland’s 53-man roster, was added and rookie running back Devin Moore was released. The team also let go of receiver Logan Payne and linebacker Thomas Williams to make room for a couple of offensive linemen who will provide practice depth at a injury-depleted position. Guard Brian De La Puente and tackle Na’Shan Goddard were both brought back to the practice squad.
