Good news for Washington basketball fans. Spencer Hawes is out on the court in his practice gear shooting around. He won’t take part in any major portion of practice, but the fact that he’s able to participate in even some of practice is a great sign that he should be ready to go when the season starts in a few weeks.
In other basketball news, Tyrone Willingham spent some time earlier today shooting free throws with Justin Dentmon. It was hard to tell what Willingham’s success rate – most likely there were good shots and not-so-good shots – but his form wasn’t too bad.
Dashon Goldson said he wore a boot from Sunday through Tuesday, taking it off just before Tuesday’s practice. He re-injured his right ankle against Oregon State and seemed a little frustrated that he wasn’t 100 percent, and probably won’t be all season. But he said he’s going to play Saturday. No real news outside of that. All the players I talked to (Goldson, C.J. Wallace, Roy Lewis) said they have faith in Carl Bonnell and that he has looked good in practice. Defensive coordinator Kent Baer apparently didn’t have time to stop by for his weekly media meeting today, so we’re not sure what he thinks about the Cal defense.
