KIRKLAND – While Shaun Alexander has long been an enigma when it comes to his public persona, the Seattle Seahawks answered any questions about his popularity within the organization by naming him their man of the year on Thursday.
Alexander was given the annual award based on his work in the community as well as his on-field achievements.
On the field, Alexander leads the NFL in both rushing yards (1,388) and touchdowns (22).
His off-the-field work has been just as impressive, although less publicized.
He has his own foundation, works with a national Christian mentoring program, and works with several other groups that are designed to help build the minds of young men and women. He also recently purchased the community center near his hometown in Boone County, Ky., and recently wrote a children’s book entitled “Alexander the Great.”
By being named the Seahawks’ man of the year, Alexander becomes a finalist for the 2005 Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year Award.
