One of the things I was hoping would come from the Brad LeLievre story is a little assistance from the public. As far as I know LeLievre was the first county resident ever selected in the WHL bantam draft, but my own knowledge of local hockey only dates back to 2003. I’m certain there are readers with far more knowledge on the subject than me.
Well, it’s worked. We’ve received some feedback regarding players with Snohomish County ties, though no evidence of another Snohomish County player being drafted by a WHL team. I’ve also been presented with names of local players who didn’t play in the WHL, but went on to play either in the NCAA or the pros.
So I’ve decided it would be good to create a list of Snohomish County natives who have gone on to play at higher levels, whether it’s major junior, NCAA , minors or NHL. I’d like the list to include players who are currently active, as well as those who played in the past. Therefore, I need your help. I’m soliciting the readers for names so that I can create the list and use it for future purposes, including keeping track of how our local players are progressing in their hockey careers. You can respond to this post, or you can e-mail me at npatterson@heraldnet.com. No need to tell me about T.J. Oshie, who as far as I know is the only current NHLer with county ties.
One other thing. Among the names brought up so far is former NHLer David Wilkie. A reader said Wilkie went to high school at either Mariner or Meadowdale. Hockeydb.com lists his hometown as Ellensburg, but he did play junior hockey in Seattle, both in the PIHJL and for the T-birds. If anyone has more information about Wilkie I’d be interested.
Thanks in advance for your assistance.
