DARRINGTON—Three games into its first season and the wait is already over.
Highland Christian won the first football game in its program’s history with a convincing 38-14 win over the Darrington junior varsity Tuesday night.
Normally an eight-man program, the Knights played with 11-men and came out victorious.
“Feels excellent. I’m more happy for the kids though,” Highland Christian head coach Joey Brown said about his team’s first win.
Quarterback Vince Kurtzenacker hit Jeff Kelly and Jon Enge on touchdown passes and Caleb Brown, Stormee Brown and Chase Fuller all rushed for touchdowns for the Knights (1-2 overall).
Craig Crawford anchored the Knights’ defense with seven tackles and an interception.
“Our kids loved it,” Brown said of playing an 11-man game, “It’s quite an adjustment but we had a great time.”
