In his 20th at-bat of spring training, Ken Griffey Jr. has hit one out of the ballpark.
Griffey connected on a hanging curveball from Brewers left-hander Lindsay Gulin — who went to Issaquah High School — in the eighth inning today. The two-run homer into the Brewers’ bullpen near the right-field line pulled the Mariners within a run at 6-5.
For Griffey it truly was a walkoff homer. After his trot around the bases, he walked off the field when the inning was over. He finished his day 1-for-3 with a walk, a soft popup and a grounder that started a double play.
Besides being his first homer since returning to the Mariners, it was Griffey’s third hit.
