SPOKANE — The Spokane Chiefs have won junior hockey’s top prize, the Memorial Cup.
For the first time in 17 years, the Chiefs of the Western Hockey League are bringing the championship trophy back to Spokane.
They beat the Kitchener Rangers in Ontario, Canada, on Sunday 4-to-1.
Kitchener scored early in the first period, but it was all Chiefs after that. Judd Blackwater, Drayson Bowman, Trevor Glass and Jared Cowen scored for Spokane.
Chiefs goalie Dustin Tokarski stopped 53 of 54 shots.
A rally is scheduled Monday at Veterans Memorial Arena.
