EVERETT — Yan Sanchez had two hits, including a two-run homer, and drove in four runs as the Hillsboro Hops defeated the Everett AquaSox 9-2 in Northwest League baseball action Monday.
Riley Smith (1-0) picked up the win for Hillsboro. He allowed just one run and five hits over six innings. He struck out four.
Hillsboro opened the scoring in the first inning when Sanchez hit a triple that drove in Domingo Leyba.
After Hillsboro added a run in the third on a double by Bryan Araiza, the AquaSox cut into the deficit in the third inning when Jonas Lantigua delivered an RBI double, driving in Joe Venturino.
Hillsboro blew the game open with a five-run fourth that included a two-run homer by Sanchez.
Everett starting pitcher Anjul Hernandez (0-1) allowed six runs and seven hits over 3 1/3 innings in season debut. He struck out four and walked four.
