Horse-collar tackles. The mere mention of them makes my stomach turn. I’ve shot enough football to know that not a lot of good things can happen to the human body when it is wrenched to the ground by someone yanking down on a set of shoulder pads. Only facemask tackles are worse. Both are now illegal in high school football and for good reason. Even if the tackler doesn’t intend on grabbing onto the inside of the pads, just like most guys don’t mean to grab a facemask, it happens and kids can get hurt.
