Here are four local prep events to keep an eye on this week:
1. Volleyball: Archbishop Murphy at South Whidbey, 7 p.m. Thursday. This is a matchup of 2016 state-tournament qualifiers and two of the better teams in the Cascade Conference. The Wildcats (8-0 overall, 5-0 conference) have swept their past three matches. The last time they lost a set? Their Sept. 14 match against the Falcons (5-2, 3-2).
2. Girls soccer: Glacier Peak at Lake Stevens, 7:30 p.m. Thursday. These two teams are battling for the top two spots in Wesco 4A. The Grizzlies (7-1 overall, 5-1 conference) have scored 13 goals in their past two games, while the Vikings (6-2, 4-2) have surrendered just one goal in their past three.
3. Girls soccer: Cedarcrest at Archbishop Murphy, 7 p.m. Thursday. The top two teams in the Cascade Conference clash in this one. Lexi Klaudt has scored five goals in the Wildcats’ (6-2-1 overall, 5-1-0 conference) past two games. Meanwhile, the Red Wolves (7-0-2, 5-0-1) have scored 29 goals this season and have allowed just three.
4. Cross country: Hole in the Wall Invite, 11 a.m. Saturday, Lakewood High School. This event, now in its 34th year, is the largest high school cross country race in Washington and the second largest in the Pacific Northwest.
