EVERETT — Washington running back Johri Fogerson has been arrested for investigation of resisting arrest and possession of 40 grams or less of marijuana, taken into custody after running from police following a traffic stop.

According to Snohomish County Jail records, Fogerson was booked at 6:03 a.m. PST Thursday on the two charges. Bail was set at $500. Fogerson was released on bail around 10:53 a.m.

Washington coach Steve Sarkisian issued a statement Thursday morning saying the school is aware of the arrest of one of its players.

“We are still gathering information and, if and when any action is taken on our part, we will have further comment,” Sarkisian said.

According to the Washington State Patrol, Fogerson was pulled over in the Seattle suburb of Mill Creek on a headlight violation and troopers noticed a small amount of marijuana in the car. Trooper Keith Leary said that as Fogerson was about to be arrested he bolted from officers on foot and was not caught.

Around 3:20 a.m., State Patrol dispatchers received a call that Fogerson wanted to turn himself in. He was taken into custody shortly before 4 a.m., Leary said.

Fogerson was The Associated Press state player of the year in 2007. He started his college career as a safety before moving to tailback in 2009. He missed most of the 2010 season with injuries and the school was seeking a medical redshirt.
