RANCHO CORDOVA, Calif. — The University of Washington won all three men’s eight-oared shell events for the first time since 1997 to win the 107th IRA Championships Regatta Saturday on Lake Natoma.
The Huskies pulled out a race for the ages in the varsity eights to sweep the eights, closing out an exceptional run that included four of five UW crews winning gold and all five crews medaling.
Washington finished the varsity Eights race in 5 minutes, 50.91 seconds. Cal finished in 5:51.80.
It marks the 13th national championship for a Huskies varsity eight shell, and first 2007.
Washington’s second varsity eight beat Brown and California. The freshman eight capped its undefeated season with a seven-second win over Harvard, finishing in 5:50.68.
UW also won the open four grand final, timed in 6:35.48.
