The University of Washington women’s basketball team will get its shot at redemption. And the Huskies won’t have to go far to get it.
The UW women found out Thursday night that they will get a rematch with Utah, which beat the Huskies in the lone meeting in Seattle on Jan. 7, this Sunday afternoon at Hec Edmundson Pavilion. The second-round game of the Women’s National Invitational Tournament has a scheduled tip-off at noon.
Utah shocked the Huskies (18-14) with a 49-26 overtime win at UW in January. The Utes made just one field goal through the first 19-plus minutes of the second half before Janita Badon’s 3-pointer in the final seconds helped send the game to overtime. Utah (16-15) went on to dominate UW in the overtime session.
The Utes beat Utah State 69-58 in a WNIT game Thursday night. Afterward, the tournament announced that UW would get to host Utah this Sunday at noon.
The Huskies cruised past Cal Poly 90-71 in their WNIT opener Wednesday night.
After Wednesday’s win, UW freshman Jazmine Davis said of the Jan. 7 loss to Utah: “We definitely have not forgotten about that one.”
