I’ll take potpourri for $800, Alex

Once again, it’s time to take a quick trip through my notebook and email inbox. In no particular order, here’s what I’ve got for you on (another) gray and cool day.

Correction: First off let me apologize to Mike and Jeff Holden. In the Evergreen Speedway notebook from last Saturday (click here) I transposed their car numbers. That’s now been fixed to reflect that Mike Holden drives the No. 11 car and Jeff Holden is in the No. 12.

Help Nikki and Mindy: As many of you know, Evergreen Speedway bomber division driver Nikki Bristol and mini-stock driver Mindy Harriss are taking part in the “Walk for the Cure” to fight breast cancer.

The three-day, 60-mile walk is in September and each walker has to come up with $2,200.

Nikki’s grandma June says she has a ways to go to reach that mark, so please think about helping her out.

Nikki and Mindy will accept donations and have donation forms at the autograph session this Saturday at Evergreen Speedway.

Turn right? Really? The most highly anticipated race this year has got to be the ASA Northwest Tour road course event on June 7 at Pacific Raceways.

Every Tour driver I’ve talked to has said this is the one race — with a purse of more than $35,000 including $5,000 to win and $800 to start — they won’t miss.

The Tour’s Scott Ellsworth said in a press release: “This race is designed so the regular Saturday night circle track type car, not the specific road race cars, can experience a road course race. “

Practice sessions have been scheduled for May 9, 16 and 23. Drivers must pre-register for these practices by calling Steve Caputo at 1-253-639-5927 ext. 103.

The event is open to all late models. If drivers need any hospitality suites for their sponsors please call Tracie Brandenburg (Pacific Raceways marketing director) at 253-639-5927 ext 104.

Return of the mini-stocks: The mini-stock division returns to Evergreen Speedway this weekend, which could mean the debut of Angela Jennings in the No. 33 car.

Angela, 17, is the daughter of Steve Jennings, a former mini-stock champion and super stock/bomber driver Jill Lang’s crew chief.

Angela and Kim Lang are planning on sharing driving duties in the 33 car this season. Kim Lang currently sits in fifth place on the season points list.

And your points would be? John Zaretzke (167 points) continues to lead the super stock division standings with Naima Lang (164) trailing by just three points and Mike Holden (160) seven points back. Chris Preston (146) and Jill Lang (142) round out the top five.

In the bomber division, Jim Foti (161) sits atop the standings, followed by Lane Sundholm (156), Frank Cowgill (149), Jill Lang (148) and Clark Casey (146).

Mark Weedin (58) leads the mini-stock division, with defending champion Chuck Richard (55) just three points back. Kris Harriss (52) is third, Bob Edwards (51) fourth and Kim Lang (47) rounds out the top five.

For complete standings, visit Evergreen Speedway’s Web site.

Skagit Speedway rained out: Last Saturday’s races at Skagit Speedway were rained out. As you may recall, the opener was snowed out on April 19 so that would have been just the second week of racing.

“It kills me, but it’s part of the game,” Skagit owner Steve Beitler said on Wednesday. “If you’re going to let the weather bother you, don’t get in the promoting business.”

He added: “We’ll just keep coming back every week and hope the weather cooperates.”

Last but not least: Thanks again to Debra Bailey Trail for today’s photo, taken during one of the bomber division heat races last Saturday at Evergreen Speedway.
