OKLAHOMA CITY — A pickup truck and a trailer containing an expensive open-wheel race car have been stolen from the parking lot of an Oklahoma City motel, police said.
Eugene Nolen of Indianapolis said the $250,000 loss could mean the end of his racing team, which has participated in events across the country for 30 years.
“It may put me out of business, I don’t know,” Nolen, 65, said Monday. “Insurance is way, way too high on race cars, so I don’t have it.”
The theft occurred late Feb. 16 or early Feb. 17 outside a Red Roof Inn along Interstate 40, police said.
The yellow race car with a number 20 on its side was used in the U.S. Auto Club’s Silver Crown Series. The trailer also contained a spare engine, spare parts, tools and an all-terrain vehicle.
Two race team members were hauling the trailer from Indiana to Arizona for a race when the theft occurred.
