CLEVELAND — The Cleveland Indians have signed pitcher Carlos Carrasco, the club’s No. 2 starter, to a four-year contract.
The team said Carrasco’s contract runs through the 2018 season and includes club options for 2019 and 2020.
Carrasco’s deal comes two days after the club signed ace Corey Kluber to a four-year, $38 million contract. Kluber didn’t allow a hit until the sixth inning in Monday’s season opener, but took the loss as the Indians fell 2-0 by Houston.
Carrasco had a breakout season in 2014, going 8-7 with a 2.55 ERA in 40 games. The right-hander began the season in Cleveland’s bullpen but emerged as a dependable starter and finished with 140 strikeouts and just 29 walks in 134 innings. Over his final 10 starts, the 28-year-old went 5-3 with a 1.30 ERA.
Carrasco starts Tuesday night against the Astros.
