KIRKLAND — After 15 improbable seasons with the Seattle Seahawks, 36-year-old fullback Mack Strong officially hung up his cleats on Monday afternoon.
An emotional Strong walked into a press conference and announced his retirement one day after suffering a spinal injury that involved a herniated disc.
“There’s a lot more to life than football,” an emotional Strong said. “I’ve got a wife and two kids, and there’s nothing more important than being able to spend time with them. If I hadn’t been able to walk off that field …
“I’m just glad that I was able to make that decision.”
Strong spent his entire career with the Seahawks after entering the league as an undrafted free agent in 1993.
Leonard Weaver will take over as starter.
