Things have taken a turn for the worse for Everett on the injury front.
First, No. 1 goaltender Kent Simpson does not look like he will be able to return for Wednesday’s Game 3. Simpson, who’s been trying to work his way back from a sprained ankle, has seen his recovery progress stall. He sat out practice today and is highly doubtful for Wednesday.
Second, overage forward Parker Stanfield has been added to the injury list. Stanfield suffered a concussion when he was high sticked by Portland’s Nino Niederreiter during the second period of Sunday’s 7-2 loss at Portland.
Stanfield’s concussion means both of Everett’s overage forwards are dealing with concussions as Clayton Cumiskey, who has yet to play in the series, is still feeling the effects. Neither Stanfield nor Cumiskey practiced today and they won’t be available Wednesday.
This is not exactly the news a team that’s down 2-0 in a best-of-seven series, having been outscored 11-2 in the process, wants to hear.
