Injury updates ahead of the Seahawks’ preseason finale

The Seahawks wrap up the preseason Thursday night with their game at Oakland. Typically the starters play very little in the final preseason game, with those who are trying to make the roster given more time to state their cases.

Anyway, here’s some injury updates provided Wednesday by coach Pete Carroll:

– Running back Thomas Rawls (ankle) continues to look good in practice and everything remains on schedule for him to play in the season opener on Sept. 11 against Miami. However, Carroll was coy when asked whether Rawls would see any action against the Raiders.

– Defensive end Michael Bennett (toe) missed practices this week as he traveled to California for treatment on his toe. Carroll said Bennett has been having this procedure for years and that everything remains on schedule, meaning Bennett should be fine for the start of the regular season.

– Tight end Jimmy Graham (knee) practiced in full for the first time this week. He won’t play Thursday, and Carroll was again coy when asked whether Graham would be ready for the start of the regular season.

– Defensive tackle Jarran Reed (toe) returned to practice this week, but won’t play Thursday. Carroll said there’s a chance he’ll be ready for the opener.

– Tight end Nick Vannett (ankle) has yet to resume running, so he won’t play Thursday. Carroll seemed doubtful whether Vannett would be back by the opener, saying the team is preparing as if Vannett would need another week.

– Receiver Kasen Williams (hamstring) is questionable whether he’ll play Thursday.

– Long snapper Nolan Frese, who has been inconsistent in the preseason, has been dealing with a shoulder issue he picked up in Seattle’s second preseason game, and Carroll said the injury has affected his ability to snap the ball. The injury is apparently improving, and Carroll also said he was impressed that Frese has five tackles in three games.

– Carroll said guys like running back C.J. Prosise and defensive tackle Jordan Hill, who missed much of training camp and the preseason because of injuries but are now back, will see extended time because of their lack of a full preseason.

Following the game the team will have to start making decisions about its final 53-man roster. The deadline for cutting down from 75 to 53 is 1 p.m. Saturday. Teams are allowed to stock their practice squad beginning Sunday.
