The hosts from HBO’s “Inside the NFL” made their Super Bowl XL predictions on Wednesday night’s show. Four of the five — Cris Collinsworth, Bob Costas, Bryant Gumbel and Dan Marino — guessed that the Pittsburgh Steelers would beat the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday. Only Cris Carter chose to “fly with the birds.”
But one’s not good enough, so as soon as I get home I’m canceling HBO and ordering Showtime.
There’s no football on Showtime, but, you know, they’ve got other stuff.
Since the other four guys are clearly complete idiots (which is really sad, because I liked Costas), I’ll give you Carter’s justification for his pick.
“I’m looking for the players that people aren’t going to recognize as stars and I believe that Seattle and Jerramy Stevens is going to play a tremendous role. High expectations when he came into the National Football League, had a couple of very poor years early in his career. But now over 500 yards receiving this year and five touchdowns, his blocking is going to be instrumental especially going against that 3-4 (Steelers defense). Matt Hasselbeck is going to be the MVP of this game, I’m picking Seattle.”
