The Silvertips, naturally, are mum on who they’ll be announcing as their new head coach at Wednesday’s press conference.
However, clues have appeared online that suggest that Mark Ferner will be Everett’s new coach. Ferner, who has been the coach and GM of the BCHL’s Vernon Vipers the past four seasons, stepped down Tuesday. That led to one wave of speculation. Then the BCHL put out a press release to name Ferner’s successor with the Vipers, and in the press release it’s stated that “Mark Ferner accepted a job with the Everett Silvertips of the Western Hockey League.”
Ferner has had great success in Vernon, taking the Vipers to the Canadian junior A national championship game each of the past three seasons, winning the title in 2009 and 2010. He also has head coaching experience in the WHL, having coached the Kamloops Blazers during parts of the 2004-05 and 2005-06 seasons.
