RENTON — The Seattle Seahawks have narrowed the field in their general manager search down to two people according to reports.
ESPN and NFL.com both reported Thursday that New England Patriots senior football advisor Floyd Reese is one of the finalists. Reese, who spent 13 years as a general manager with the Houston Oilers/Tennessee Titans, is believed to be the frontrunner for the job.
According to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, Steelers director of business operations Omar Khan is the second finalist. Pat Kirwan, who according to NFL.com interviewed with the Seahawks, is being considered for a position assisting Pete Carroll. Kirwan and Carroll worked together with the New York Jets in the 1990s.
In addition to helping with the GM search, Carroll is also busy assembling his coaching staff. NFL.com reported that the Seahawks have received permission to interview Washington Redskins secondary coach Jerry Gray for the defensive coordinator position. DeWayne Walker, considered a front runner for the job, is expected to stay at New Mexico State, where he is the head coach.
Dan Quinn, the defensive line coach last year under former head coach Jim Mora, will likely be retained by the Seahawks according to the NFL.com report.
Jeremy Bates, Carroll’s offensive coordinator at USC, will take the same job with the Seahawks according to numerous reports. Alex Gibbs, considered one of the league’s best offensive line coaches, confirmed to a TV station in Houston that he is leaving the Texans to join Carroll in Seattle.
