A smokin’ July fishery for chinook in the San Juan Islands continues, according to Stuart Forst at Holiday Sports in Burlington, but it probably won’t hold at that level much longer so get ‘em while they’re there. Nice fish, 15 pounds to mid-20s common, and very few small fish in the take. Try Tide Point, Eagle Bluff, Thatcher Pass, Obstruction Pass, Sea Acres and others along Rosario Strait, Forst said.
Flasher/squid rigs have been popular, or Silver Horde spoons such as the Irish cream, cookies ‘n cream, Irish flag, cop car, or red racer, in the 4-inch size, behind a flasher.
Forst said a few pinks have also been reported, from the west side of Whidbey Island.
