The traffic, the beer, the jerseys in the street said it all.
There’s a big football game that’s going to be played this evening.
Super Bowl XL is three hours away and the place is already alive with excitement. I’m sitting in the media workroom at Ford Field, where reporters from all over the world are pouring and taking up spots at dozens of 10-footlong tables with folding chairs set up on both sides.
Driving into downtown, the signs pointed to a big event — not the least of which was the freeway-side billboard that Seattle’s KJR (AM and FM) bought and had done in blue and green and read, “GO HAWKS!”
Fans milled around outside, looking for tickets, munching on hot dogs, whooping and hollering. A crowd of Steeler fans waited at a corner for a stop light, their leader holding a case of Miller beer in each hand.
One look inside reveals a pristinely painted up slab of FieldTurf, with “Seattle Seahawks” painted in white on a blue background at one end zone, “Steelers” painted in black on a gold background in the other.
The NFL logo is in the middle and the Super Bowl XL design is on either side.
Just a couple more hours.
This is it.
