LYNNWOOD – When Jackson and Meadowdale clashed on Friday, it was in a game that was more a measure of the progress of the young squads in the early season than a battle for supremacy or position in the standings.
In a match that does not count in the Western Conference South Division standings, the teams played to a 1-1 tie. It was a game in which niether team seemed to find an advantage.
“This was a very even match,” said Meadowdale coach Darrell Hamilton. “We would have spurts and then they would make a run.”
Jackson opened scoring with a goal 18 minutes into the second half. Meadowdale scored the equalizer with five minutes remaining, when Ben Kuriluk, one of only two seniors on the Mavericks roster, booted a dead ball 50 yards down the field and into the box. A waiting Lamar Anderson took control of the ball 10 yards from the mouth of the goal and shot the tying goal.
Hamilton is impressed with his team and their performance.
“We are a young team,” said Hamilton. “This game was for us a test, a chance to see where we are. I am pleased.”
In a game with few scoring opportunities for either team, Hamilton credits a good defensive effort and solid goalkeeping.
“We played well defensively,” said Hamilton. “It was a great match. From our perspective , we did well.”
